The theme song for the original Avatar movie, released in 2009, is “I See You” performed by Leona Lewis. The song was composed by James Horner and Simon Franglen, with lyrics by Kuk Harrell. “I See You” plays during the end credits of the film and captures the ethereal and emotive essence of the movie’s narrative and its rich, fantastical world.
The story follows Jake Sully, a disabled former Marine who joins the Avatar Program after his twin brother’s death. In this program, humans transfer their consciousness into Na’vi-human hybrids, called avatars, to safely explore Pandora. Jake’s initial mission is to gather intelligence for the Resources Development Administration (RDA), which intends to mine Pandora for a valuable mineral called unobtanium.
As Jake becomes more integrated into Na’vi society through his avatar, he falls in love with Neytiri, a Na’vi woman, and begins to sympathize with their plight. The Na’vi are threatened by the expansion of the human mining operation, which is destroying their home, the Hometree. Jake’s loyalties are tested as he finds himself torn between his duty to the RDA and his commitment to the Na’vi.
The climax of the film involves a fierce battle between the RDA’s forces and the Na’vi, who fight to protect their home and way of life. Jake, fully embracing his role as a member of the Na’vi, leads the fight against the humans.
Avatar was acclaimed for its groundbreaking visual effects, including its depiction of the Na’vi and the rich, bio-luminescent flora and fauna of Pandora. The movie was a major box office success and received several awards, notably for its achievements in visual effects and cinematography.
