The Pink Panther is a series of comedy films following an inept French police detective, Inspector Jacques Clouseau. In the films The Pink Panther isn’t actually pink or a panther, although not to be confused with the children’s TV series. The Pink Panther is actually a very large, expensive and valuable pink diamond which is shown at the opening of the film. The reason for this rather unusual name is because the flaw at its centre is said to resemble a leaping Pink Panther.

Subsequently after The Pink Panther the theme song got nominated for the 1964 Academy Award for Best Original Score and the cartoon character of The Pink Panther was created for the opening credits by David DePatie and Friz Freleng. Plas Johnson was the saxophone playing tenor.
