Hollyoaks is a British soap opera which to date has been running 19 years and was first broadcast on October 23rd 1995 on Channel 4. Hollyaoks was the creation of Phil Redmond who also made the Channel 4 TV show Brookside. The show itself is set in the fictional suburb of Hollyoaks in Chester. Unlike other soap operas such as Eastenders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, Hollyoaks cast members are aged between 16 and 35 , with it being the highest turnover for cast members. Although not as prestigious as other soap operas Hollyaoks has won one National Television Award but has one a respectable 27 British Soap Awards.
